Random Tests

******9:30 AM, Guardians HQ******
The roof access hatch opened enough to let White Owl into the upper levels of Guardians HQ as a Polygirl copy came walking over. “Hi, Poly. What did you need?”

“Hi, White Owl. I had some inventions I needed tested. Think you can spare some time to be a big brave superhero and help me out?” Polygirl asked as she batted her eyes at her visitor.

“Yeah, I can spare some time. What did you need tested?” White Owl replied smiling.

******10:07 AM, Angel Falls test track******

The teleport chamber in the Stranger Industries flared to life as five figures materialized, those people being White Owl and four Polygirl copies as they walked into the room. “Thanks for helping me with these tests.” One of the Poly copies smiled as she walked with White Owl while the other three copies took their places in front of some computers. Those three logged in and were running some final checks as the other copy and the heroine went outside and down to a car that several other Polygirls were putting the finishing touches on.

“I'm testing…a car for you?” White Owl said as she looked over the vehicle. “This is a rear engine car?” She walked around to the back of the car watching two copies make some last minute adjustments.

“It's mid-engine actually, and it's ready for you to get in.” The copy walking with White Owl took a helmet from another copy as the car got buttoned up. “Come on, it'll be fun.” She continued as a couple of copies tried to pull White Owl to the driver's seat.

******5 minutes later******

“POLY! I HAVE NO CONTROL ANYMORE!” White Owl was screaming as the car wouldn't turn as it approached a wall at 250 MPH. Just as the car left the track, White Owl burst out of the roof of the car and flew away as the car slammed into the wall at full speed. As the car burned and fire trucks were racing towards it, she flew back to the pit area where one of the copies was watching the burning wreck. “What happened, Poly?” White Owl said as she floated down next to the copy.

“There were failures in the steering rack and the throttle body, and when the throttle body gave out the clutch got stuck so you couldn't put it in neutral.” Polygirl replied taking the binoculars away from her eyes. “Overall the car worked well though; there is a future for the W-24 engine it seems.” Polygirl was down but trying to remain optimistic.

“That's good that you can…wait, what's a W-24 engine?” White Owl asked completely confused.

“It's two V-12 engines side by side reworked a little so all the power can be used. Apparently the rest of the car needs some strengthening.” Polygirl's eyes started to glaze over a little, a sign all of her copies were starting to think through the problem and how to deal with it.

“Poly, focus. What was the top speed supposed to be on that thing?” White Owl asked her snapping her fingers in front of Poly's face to get that copy to focus.

Polygirl snapped out of her half trance. “Oh sorry, I was trying for 1,600 horsepower and a top speed of 275 MPH.” She responded, looking over at a stunned White Owl. “So while I'm compiling the data from this, want to test the next thing I need help with?”

******10:35 AM, Stranger Industries lab******

The teleport chamber finished its cycle as White Owl looked around seeing the Polygirl at the teleport controls waving. “Hi again, Polygirl, I'm here now.” She said stepping down from the platform. “What's next on the agenda?”

Another Polygirl copy walked in with a clipboard. “Hi again, White Owl. I have some new armor materials I need tested. If you'll come with me please.” Polygirl held out her lower right arm which Owl took with a smile as she walked deeper into the lab with the odd little tech.

******15 minutes later******

“Umm, are you sure all this is really necessary?” White Owl stood in front of the target at the end of the firing range with three copies standing a few yards away all armed with flamethrowers.

“I told you I wanted to test the material's ability to dissipate heat, and this is the best way I can think to do it.” The copy in the middle spoke up as they all lit the pilot light on their own devices. “Relax; I'm up to a 95 percent success rate here. You'll be fine, so are you ready?”

“I think so…” As soon as White Owl said that she got engulfed in flames as all three flamethrowers shot their loads around her. Just as the fuel supplies were running out, Athena felt like she got shot in the midsection. As the flames died down, the heroine doubled over in pain, all three copies of Polygirl ran over to her as soon as they put down the flamethrower nozzles.

“Are you okay, White Owl? What happened?” One of the Polygirl copies asked as all three ran over to the injured superhero to check on her.

“Ow…felt like I got shot in the stomach.” The heroine replied slowly as tried to sit up and checked for blood; she was relieved when she didn't see any. “What happened?"

One of the copies went over to the armor that had been discarded and looked at it. “I'm not sure right now; I'll have to examine the data.” After she had said that, she started to pull out the data recorders in there.

“Those won't work; the circuits would've melted from the heat.” White Owl said wincing a little as she stood up leaning on both Polygirl's next to her for support.

“Nope, I borrowed an idea from a piece of tech Firebrandi has; it's a healing device with a ceramic casing to protect against her heat. I did the same thing with these.” The Poly copy smiled as she pulled out some ceramic pockets and showed them off. “Actually you should sit down and take some time to recover, I have one last project I could use some help with but I need to put some finishing touches on it. And once you're feeling well enough I can get lunch for us both.” Polygirl smiled as she collected the last of the data recorders. White Owl's half nod warranted a hug from all three copies.

******Stranger Industries aboveground on-site test site, 2:05PM******

“…Are you sure you never saw that show? I swear you eat like the main character does, Poly.” White Owl was speaking as a Polygirl was walking along with her over to a large tent set up on the back of the SI property. “I have never seen anyone eat 12 triple hamburgers before and still have room for a large fries along with two milkshakes.”

“I forgot to eat breakfast this morning.” The copy said sheepishly as they both walked into the tent. “Well, here we are. The next thing I was hoping you could test for me today.” As they both looked at the apparatus, White Owl stopped looking at it with wide eyes.

Before White Owl stood a platform with what looked like exoskeletons to put a person's arms in, in front of that was a large pair of mechanical arms coming off of a truck trailer. “Wha…the? What is this?”

“It's a telepresence unit; it'll let someone control the arms from a far enough distance to cut down on construction accidents. Let me get you hooked up and you can take it for a spin.” Poly explained as she and White Owl got up to the platform as a couple other copies came over and hooked up the equipment to the nervous heroine.

“Okay, let's see what happens here.” White Owl was still nervous as Poly gave her two thumbs up as the display panel in front of the heroine activated showing a dizzying display of information. “Umm Poly, what should I do now?” White Owl asked as pages of technical data came up in front of her.

“Just move your arms, the robotic arms should respond and move the same direction.”
White Owl carefully started to move her arms, smiling when the robotic arms started to move the same direction. “Wow, that's fantastic.” She continued to move the arms around for a little bit before spotting a length of pipe in range of the arms. “Want me to try to pick that up?” She said as she looked over to a Polygirl copy that nodded in agreement. She smiled as she tried to angle the arms to pick up the pipe. It took a try or two but eventually she was able to grasp the pipe. “Oh wow, I can feel that I grabbed hold of it.”

“I put feedback sensors in the gloves so far, helps keep the operator from crushing items they pick up.” Polygirl said smiling as White Owl slowly lifted her arms watching the robot arms move just as carefully. “There's a drop in hydraulic pressure in the left arm, is there a leak?” One Polygirl said that as several copies started looking for the problem as well as try to compensate for the pressure drop. In short order several red lights came up on the panels as the robotic arms lost all pressure, dropping the pipe before they dropped limp to the ground.

“Umm Poly, can you unhook me from this thing now?” White Owl felt a little nervous as she saw all the copies running around working on problems coming up on flashing screens around her. As she stood there still hooked up to the control rig she noticed sparks coming from one of the robotic arms. “Poly? I think there's a short circuit developing.” White Owl started to shout as she tried to extract herself from the controls. After she had gotten one glove undone, electricity started to arc across the entire system before suddenly shooting towards her. White Owl's screams as the electricity arced through her body, prompting the Polygirls near her to hurry up and cut the power to the entire apparatus. As she passed out, she could feel multiple hands working to free her as one copy sounded frantic as she was talking to someone.

******SI infirmary, 7PM******

“Oh that hurts; I can't believe it’s morning already.” White Owl half mumbled as she opened her eyes and looked at a smooth metal ceiling. “Where am I?” She sat up in bed as she looked around, figuring out she was in something like a hospital room when she looked at where the glow was coming from. “Oh, hi Angelina. How bad was I doing?” She asked the city's resident miracle worker who was sitting right next to her.

“Quite bad when I arrived. You had received a very serious electric shock but you are better now.” The musical voice of the woman sitting by the bed helped to reassure the heroine. “She's awake now.” Angelina called to the far side of the room as Polygirl peeked around the privacy curtain and then nervously walked over.

“Hi, sorry…I think some of the hydraulics burst and sprayed fluid over part of the electrical system.” Polygirl started in blushing. “I'm sorry; I didn't know it would do that. I really thought I had it tuned to lift a few hundred pounds…” She had started in before White Owl held up a hand.

“I'm okay, Polygirl; I don't think I'll be able to test any more devices for you today, though.” White Owl reassured the tech as she lay back down on the bed, trying to get a little more comfortable.

“I know. It's late enough at night that I need to shut everything down for a couple of hours anyway. Got enough energy to eat? I'll pay and you can come along too, Angelina.” Polygirl said with a nervous smile.

“Sounds good, if my doctor says it's okay that is.” White Owl smiled as she said that looking to Angelina. When she nodded, the heroine started getting out of the bed to join the other two for dinner.

Nice outfit. Still, I think that Storm in her old, black uniform, was a sexiest dark skinned heroine ever.
